What are the Madonnas figures made of?

AAll Madonnas are made of high-quality maple wood or lime wood and radiate warmth and comfort thanks to their production from the natural material wood.

The valuable and long lasting maple wood allows details to show to advantage. Also lime wood is often used for the production of religious statues and Madonnas, because it can be worked very well and is easy to maintain.

Once you have decided on a type of wood, you can also determine the design of your Madonna figure. Should the Madonna figure be natural, colored, antiqued or stained? How do I hang a statue of the Virgin Mary on the wall?

Our Mary figures are available either to be placed on a firm base or to hang on the wall. If you have purchased a wall Madonna you can easily hang it on the wall.

Our wall Madonnas already come with a pre-drilled hole. Decide for yourself if you wish to put a nail or a screw into the wall and then hang the figure on it. But you also have the possibility to hang your Madonna with one of our wall consoles in a unique manner.

What care does a statue of the Madonna need?

With the right care, you will enjoy your Madonna for a long time. From time to time, carefully free the hand-carved Marienfigur from dust with a soft, dry cloth or a fine brush. For a waxed or stained Madonna you can also use a soft brush. By brushing you polish the surface at the same time.

For painted carvings, whether glazed, antique, painted with watercolors or gold leaf, you should not use a brush to avoid damaging the surface. In the case of gilding, please do not press or rub firmly with the cloth. Also do not touch the gold directly with your skin, as it darkens and loses its shine through sweat and grease.

Madonna or Mary? Name and Symbolism of the Mother of God

Whether Madonna or Mary: both names refer to the same person, namely the holy Mary Mother of God, who is also the central figure in the Nativity set at the birth of Jesus. The word Madonna is the Italian name for "my mistress". However, the popular term Madonna is mainly used for individual depictions of the Mother of God with the Child Jesus.
